John Lennon's Hofner Club 40. Introduced in 1954 the Hofner Club is a semi-hollow bodied German-made electric guitar which was first offered in two versions. The Model 125 with a single neck pickup and the 126 with neck and bridge pickups. The model name ÔClubÕ was introduced as British company Selmer began distributing Hofner«s in 1957 when the 125 became the Club 40. In 1959 John Lennon's Aunt Mimi helped him purchase his Club 40 when she paid the £17 deposit, just one day before The Quarry MenÕs first performance at Liverpool's new Casbah Coffee Club and although not JohnÕs first, it probably qualifies as his first professional guitar and proved tough enough to survive as JohnÕs main instrument whilst The Silver Beatles made their way to Hamburg.
